All About Jesi
It all started when…
It all really started when I was in first grade and creating books was simply a matter of folding a stack of paper in half and illustrating a page-turner about whatever came to mind. There was definitely one about a dragon that lived in a cave and befriended a little girl. Eventually, my writing and I evolved, and by fourth grade my short stories included recycling robots and kitschy character names like “Cellular." By sixth grade I'd started my first novel and would spend hours writing and thinking, while also procrastinating by drawing the floor plans of my characters’ houses and a map of their neighborhood. My characters were twelve and my unfinished novel was basically fan-fiction based on the movie, Now and Then.
Writing has always been a passion and strength of mine, and it definitely came in handy while writing those last-minute ten-page papers in college, 80-page outlines to study in law school, and multiple essays for the bar exam. Obviously writing got less fun as I got older, but it got me through.
Then, one day as I read Gretchen Rubin's book, The Happiness Project, I got the idea that I should actually try to write a novel. Gretchen wrote about the book No Plot? No Problem! by Chris Baty, which I just happened to have because I'd stolen it from my brother. So, one November I began my author journey by writing a novel in a month, while my husband and I lived in a one-bedroom farmhouse and my one-year-old son slept in his crib next to my desk. I was a lawyer by day and a novelist by night…and sometimes during lunch.
It’s taken me years of re-writing and editing, but I’m finally sharing my work with others, and hopefully the world, including you. Thank you for visiting my website. I look forward to hearing from you.
